Last weekend, my mom, Wes and I got to work wallpapering an accent wall in my foyer. Wes and I had never wallpapered before, and my mom lived through the ’80s when wallpapering was everything so she knows her way around some wallpaper, and I was relieved when she offered to help us!
It actually ended up not being as intimidating as I thought it would be. In fact, I actually found it to be kind of fun once we got the hang of it. When we moved in, our entire foyer, staircase, and upstairs hallway was covered in this very ’80’s, striped wallpaper that I hated (I started taking it down after only being in the house one week!). You can see what that looked like here. From there, I painted everything pure white, but I quickly learned that in an old house with oak trim, white walls just look unfinished and plain. Plus, some of our foyer walls are not in the best condition so we decided to go with wallpaper again, but more modern-looking wallpaper. We did an accent wall behind our piano this past weekend (as shown above), and we plan on actually doing the entire foyer soon because we are so pleased with it.
We went with the Queen Anne wallpaper by Rifle Paper Co. in taupe, which is just perfect for our historic home because it has a vintage look, but it feels fresh and not dated at all. I also love it because the neutral colors don’t come across as busy or loud. It looks elegant without being frilly. I’m in love!
In the spirit of this newfound love of mine, I thought I would round up 6 pretty wallpapers that I found.
